Role Overview – Site Reliability Engineer

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that PhonePe’s fintech infrastructure remains always-up, secure, scalable, and highly performant. You will work closely with platform, DevOps, and engineering teams to support mission-critical production systems.

This role is ideal for engineers aiming to grow into Senior SRE, Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or DevOps Architect roles.

Key Responsibilities

System Reliability & Operations

• Maintain always-available production systems at massive scale
• Implement SRE best practices to ensure uptime, performance, and resilience
• Participate in on-call rotations to support critical services
• Diagnose and resolve production incidents efficiently

---

Linux & Networking Expertise

• Administer and troubleshoot Linux/Unix systems in production
• Work extensively with Linux networking concepts, including:
  • IP addressing
  • iptables
  • IPsec
• Ensure secure and optimized system-level configurations

---

Databases & Storage

• Work with MySQL databases in production environments
• Experience with MariaDB and Percona is a strong advantage
• Understand database performance tuning, replication, and availability

---

Automation, Scripting & Configuration Management

• Develop automation using Perl, Python, or Golang
• Implement configuration management and automation using SaltStack
• Reduce manual intervention through scripting and tooling

---

Cloud & Private Infrastructure

• Work with private cloud environments
• Implement and manage cloud services on Linux using KVM/QEMU
• Support highly scalable infrastructure used by fintech platforms

---

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer / System Engineer / Linux Administrator
• Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration
• Solid understanding of computer networking
• Hands-on experience with open-source tools and technologies
• Experience working in production, high-availability environments
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills
• Experience with automation and IT operations best practices

Desirable / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases, especially Aerospike
• Proficiency in Perl and Golang
• Understanding of Galera Cluster operations
• Experience with data center operations and infrastructure management
• Exposure to DevOps and cloud-native architectures
