Associate Linux Support Engineer | Canonical

Job Type: Full-time | Remote
Location: Asia Pacific, Hyderabad

About the Role
Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is hiring an Associate Support Engineer to provide technical support for customers leveraging open-source products. This is an opportunity to work remotely with a global team and gain hands-on experience with Linux, cloud, and open-source technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support via phone, email, and web.
  • Troubleshoot Linux environments, kernel crashes, and OS configuration issues.
  • Own and manage technical cases from start to resolution.
  • Contribute to the knowledge base and draft technical notices.
  • Work in a customer-facing role while ensuring high satisfaction levels.
  • Participate in weekend rotations and maintain clear team communication.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting and system administration.
  • Knowledge of at least two of the following:
    • Linux server administration
    • Programming fundamentals (Bash, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++, Go)
    • Networking (firewalls, switching, MTU issues, etc.)
    • Virtualization/Cloud computing (provisioning, monitoring, orchestration)
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt and learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, VMWare, VirtualBox).
  • Hands-on experience with open-source desktop technologies.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or forums.
