About the Role

American Express is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE I) to join its global technology team. This role focuses on enhancing system resilience, scalability, performance, and reliability across hybrid and cloud environments.

As an SRE, you will collaborate with software engineering, product, and operations teams to build robust, automated, and secure systems that power mission-critical financial services worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with software engineers to improve system resilience, scalability, and performance.
• Develop and implement automation tools and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions.
• Contribute to architectural design discussions with a focus on reliability and scalability.
• Support chaos engineering experiments and resilience testing.
• Implement and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Work with teams on SLOs, SLIs, error budgeting, and reliability best practices.
• Partner with global product and business teams to align technology with business objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
• Knowledge of observability tools such as Splunk, ElasticSearch, Prometheus, Grafana.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices architecture.
• Experience with logging, monitoring, tracing, and performance analysis platforms.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in software development or technology operations.
• Knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, Java, Python, and Bash scripting.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field.
