Overview

Workday, a Fortune 500 company and global leader in AI-powered enterprise cloud platforms, is hiring a DevOps Engineer (Support & Operations) in Chennai, India under a flexible hybrid work model.
This role focuses on platform reliability, cloud-native operations, automation, observability, and supporting large-scale distributed systems running on AWS and GCP.

You will join a high-impact team responsible for deploying, operating, and improving Workday’s cloud-native technology platform, built using Kubernetes, Istio, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, and modern CNCF tools.

About the Team

The DevOps/SRE team ensures the reliability, scalability, and availability of Workday’s cloud platform.
The team:

• Owns cloud-native services powering Workday products.
• Supports end-to-end platform reliability across AWS & GCP.
• Operates in a follow-the-sun model with two-week scrum sprints.
• Uses a full Cloud Native tech stack: Kubernetes, Istio, OPA, GoLang, Ruby/Groovy, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, and more.

Role: DevOps Engineer (Support & Operations)

The primary objective of this role is to ensure platform reliability, reduce operational toil through automation, and support multi-stage deployments across global environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Be an active member of a dedicated DevOps/SRE team responsible for platform engineering and operations.
• Reduce operational toil using automation and cloud-native tooling.
• Implement changes safely using SLO-gated multi-stage deployment automation.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, and customer satisfaction.
• Develop and deploy SLIs/SLOs, and build scalable observability frameworks.
• Create and enhance runbook automation and production processes.
• Partner with platform service teams to define and enforce SRE standards.
• Build benchmarks and automation to validate services before moving to production.
• Troubleshoot distributed systems, Kubernetes clusters, networking, and Linux-based environments.

About You

You are passionate about scaling distributed systems, solving operational challenges, and improving platform performance through automation.

Preferred Background & Skills

• Strong experience with Linux, distributed systems, and production troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (CKA certification is a major plus).
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP).
• Solid understanding of cloud-native tools: Kubernetes, Istio, OPA, ArgoCD, Jenkins, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and automation-first mindset.
