The Opportunity

We’re looking for an Associate Software Engineer II to join our team working on Blackboard, a platform used by learners, instructors, and administrators around the world. You'll work with Java and REST APIs in an agile team, using test-driven development and modern engineering practices. You’ll also work with AI technology to boost development efficiency and enhance our products.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications using Java and SQL
  • Participate in daily agile ceremonies: stand-ups, sprint planning, demos, and code reviews
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve problems and deliver new features
  • Troubleshoot live production issues and work on solutions with minimal downtime
  • Use AI tools to improve productivity and innovation in software development

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in software development
  • Working knowledge of Java, SQL databases, and web application development
  • Understanding of Object-Oriented programming and design principles
  • Ability to write unit and integration tests
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithm analysis
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Fast learner and team player with analytical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud technologies (especially AWS)
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies and modern DevOps practices
