Job Summary

Standard Chartered’s Technology organization powers the bank’s global digital vision by delivering innovative, scalable, and secure engineering solutions.

We are seeking a Cloud Engineer with strong hands-on experience in IaaS, PaaS, automation, cloud infrastructure development, and multi-cloud environments. You will work within a global engineering team driving modern cloud adoption using the best DevSecOps, Agile, and full-stack engineering practices.

This role is ideal for someone who loves to build, test, deploy, and automate high-availability cloud infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

Processes

  • Implement a state-of-the-art Azure platform enabling faster time-to-market for business applications.
  • Act as a trusted partner for application owners and engineering teams adopting cloud solutions.
  • Prioritize engineering resources based on strategic roadmaps and technical requirements.
  • Introduce emerging cloud technologies and align with industry best practices.
  • Ensure full compliance with Standard Chartered security, audit, and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to full-stack development, software testing, and architectural improvements.
  • Support container adoption and container platform design (Kubernetes, container governance).
  • Maintain lifecycle documentation including test cases, design documents, and source code repositories.
  • Act as an effective communicator between customers, engineering, and leadership teams.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • Ensure team members receive necessary training and development.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and external service partners.
  • Resolve conflicts, manage expectations, and provide leadership direction.

  • Understand and comply with global banking regulations including AML, sanctions, and compliance frameworks.
  • Identify and mitigate risk, ensuring proper escalation channels.
  • Embed ethical behavior, conduct standards, and operational discipline across the team.

  • Continuously provide feedback to improve cloud strategy, engineering processes, and tooling.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, or equivalent professional experience.

Certifications

  • Professional Cloud Certification (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is preferred.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years hands-on experience with cloud providers (preferably AWS & Azure).
  • Strong software engineering experience in Go, Python, Shell, Perl, PHP, Ruby, or C.
  • Solid experience with Terraform and Git.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Experience working with testing frameworks and writing unit/system tests.
  • Strong commitment to DevSecOps best practices.
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, HTTPS, DNS, load balancing, routing, and cloud networking fundamentals.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, design, and deploy secure and scalable cloud architectures.
