Role Summary

The Cloud Operations Engineer (L1) is responsible for ensuring 24x7 availability, performance, and reliability of cloud-hosted and hybrid infrastructure. This role focuses on incident management, proactive monitoring, cloud operations, and ITSM best practices, playing a critical role in minimizing downtime and maintaining system health.

This position targets high-demand cloud operations and cybersecurity skill sets, making it highly valuable for global cloud service providers and enterprises.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 24x7 operational support through rotational on-call schedules
• Monitor cloud infrastructure, platforms, and applications using enterprise monitoring tools
• Act as first-line incident responder, triaging alerts and executing runbooks
• Escalate critical issues following ITSM and ITIL escalation procedures
• Communicate incident status clearly with stakeholders and internal teams
• Collaborate with DevOps, Infrastructure, Networking, and Application teams
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and service improvement initiatives
• Maintain SOPs, runbooks, documentation, and incident logs
• Support system validation during releases, upgrades, and maintenance windows
• Identify risks, performance bottlenecks, and configuration issues proactively

Required Skills & Technical Expertise

• Hands-on experience with AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud platforms
• Strong understanding of cloud services: Compute, Storage, Networking, IAM, Monitoring, Auto Scaling
• Experience with Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or similar tools
• Knowledge of ITIL frameworks and ITSM tools like PagerDuty, Jira
• Experience with incident triage, escalation, service restoration, and RCA
• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows system administration
• Experience with log analysis and centralized logging solutions
• Scripting skills using Bash, Python, or PowerShell
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Git, and Jenkins
• Strong fundamentals in TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, VPCs, subnets
• Awareness of cloud security best practices and IAM concepts

Good to Have

• 1–2 years of experience in cloud operations or infrastructure support
• AWS-focused experience preferred
• Exposure to cloud-native monitoring and alerting systems
• Automation experience using Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Certifications:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
  • RHCSA / RHCE
  • Six Sigma
