Role Summary

The Cloud Operations Engineer ensures the continuous availability, performance, and reliability of cloud-hosted and on-premises applications and infrastructure through 24x7 support operations. This role involves proactive monitoring of critical systems, identifying and resolving incidents swiftly, and escalating issues to appropriate teams as necessary, in alignment with IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices.

Responsibilities

• Operational Coverage: Participate in a rotational on-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to provide operational support for cloud-hosted applications and infrastructure.
• Incident Monitoring: Monitor infrastructure, platforms, and applications in real-time to identify anomalies and performance issues using industry-standard tools.
• First-Level Incident Response: Triage and resolve issues promptly using runbooks for quick resolution.
• Escalation and Coordination: Escalate critical issues to relevant teams according to ITSM escalation protocols.
• Incident Communication: Ensure clear, timely communication with internal stakeholders and affected units.
• Collaboration Across Teams: Work with DevOps, infrastructure, and network teams to troubleshoot and prevent operational issues.
• Root Cause and Improvement: Contribute to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures.
• SOP Adherence: Follow and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and compliance policies.
• Proactive Problem Identification: Report potential risks or bottlenecks and proactively resolve them.
• Support for Change and Release: Assist in ensuring system stability during planned maintenance and releases.

Requirements

Cloud Platform Expertise:

• Proficiency in managing services across AWS or Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of core cloud services: Compute, Storage, Networking, IAM, Auto Scaling, etc.

Monitoring and Alerting Tools:

• Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana, Logic Monitor, CloudWatch, including configuration of alerts, dashboards, and health checks.

Incident Management & ITSM Practices:

• Strong understanding of ITIL principles and experience with ITSM tools like PagerDuty, Jira Service Management.
• Knowledge of incident triage, escalation, and Root Cause Analysis.

Infrastructure and Systems Administration:

• Working knowledge of Linux and Windows systems in cloud or hybrid environments.
• Familiar with system administration, shell scripting, and log analysis.

Automation and Scripting:

• Ability to automate operational tasks using Bash, Python, or PowerShell.

CI/CD and DevOps Concepts:

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools like Git and Jenkins.

Networking & Security Fundamentals:

• Basic knowledge of networking concepts like TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, and cloud networking.

Logging & Observability:

• Experience with centralized logging (e.g., AWS CloudWatch or Azure Log Analytics).

Documentation:

• Maintain operational documentation and runbooks.
