Job Title: System Engineer – Unix

Summary
Responsible for the management of Unix/Linux operating systems and maintaining a robust infrastructure for optimal customer satisfaction. Ideal for candidates aspiring to high-paying careers in Unix/Linux Administration, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and IT Infrastructure Management.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle incidents, changes, and configurations within agreed SLA and OLAs
• Maintain UNIX knowledge base (wiki) to an appropriate standard
• Communicate with customers regarding incidents, changes, and progress in a timely and accurate manner
• Liaise with change raisers, management, external team members for change requests
• Participate in 24x7 onsite coverage including Saturday/Sunday shifts
• Identify opportunities for service improvement and ensure service level targets are met
• Ensure effective monitoring and management of systems
• Deploy patches and upgrades in non-production and production environments
• Work with 3rd party partners to resolve incidents and problem investigations
• Ensure all production builds are tested and meet Service Acceptance criteria
• Train team members to support Unix infrastructure effectively

Required Technical Skills

• RedHat Linux (versions 6, 7, 8)
• Oracle Solaris 10 and 11 (preferred)
• Logical Domain / Zones (preferred)
• HP UX / AIX
• Veritas Cluster and storage foundation (preferred)
• VMware
• Azure / AWS cloud exposure
• SAN experience on RedHat and Solaris (HDS / HP) (preferred)
• Shell scripting (bash)

Desirable Skills

• HP / Dell blades & rack servers
• Rubrik / NetBackup
• LDAP (RedHat Directory Services)
• RPM packaging experience
• Perl / Python
• Ansible
• ServiceNow ITSM (user experience)

Communication Skills

• Superb verbal and written skills
• Ability to clearly explain technical issues to management and leadership

Collaboration

• Excellent team player with strong technical skills
• Work closely with Unix Management and other IT teams
• Provide guidance and support to production teams and third-party suppliers
• Resolve complex technical problems and improve Linux platform reliability
