Role Overview – DevOps Cloud Engineer (Azure)

As a DevOps Cloud Engineer – Azure, you will be responsible for managing and automating Azure cloud infrastructure, implementing CI/CD pipelines, improving cloud security and governance, and supporting containerized and serverless workloads. This role offers strong exposure to enterprise Azure environments, infrastructure-as-code, monitoring, and cloud cost optimization.


Key Roles & Responsibilities

Linux System Administration

  • Perform day-to-day Linux administration including user/group management, file permissions, cron jobs, and system monitoring.
  • Use core Linux commands such as top, df, lsblk, chmod, and ps for troubleshooting and performance analysis.

Azure Cloud Core Services

  • Provision and manage Azure Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks (VNets), Subnets, Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL Database, and RBAC policies.
  • Work extensively with Azure Portal, Azure CLI, and Cloud Shell.
  • Configure public/private subnets, NSGs, and access controls.

Azure Networking

  • Design and manage VNets, route tables, NAT gateways, internet gateways, and Network Security Groups (NSGs).
  • Understand traffic routing, isolation, and security within Azure networking environments.

Compute & Storage Management

  • Launch, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure VMs using SSH, Azure Bastion, and Serial Console.
  • Manage Azure Blob Storage, lifecycle rules, snapshots, encryption, access tiers (Hot, Cool, Archive), and managed disk backups.

Identity, Security & Governance

  • Manage Azure Active Directory (AAD) users, groups, roles, and permissions.
  • Implement RBAC, Azure Policy, Azure Security Center, and monitor activity logs for compliance and audit readiness.

CI/CD & Source Control

  • Work with GitHub or Azure Repos for version control.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps Pipelines or GitHub Actions.
  • Follow Git best practices including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Automate cloud provisioning using Terraform, ARM Templates, or Bicep.
  • Create modular, reusable, and parameterized IaC templates for scalable deployments.

Monitoring & Logging

  • Configure Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Alerts.
  • Query logs using Kusto Query Language (KQL).
  • Monitor system metrics such as CPU, memory, disk, and network utilization.

Serverless & Event-Driven Architecture

  • Develop and deploy Azure Functions triggered by HTTP, timers, or Blob events.
  • Use Managed Identities and secure bindings for serverless applications.

Containers & Orchestration

  • Build and manage Docker containers, write Dockerfiles, and push images to Azure Container Registry (ACR).
  • Gain hands-on exposure to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) including pods, deployments, and services.

Cost Optimization & Documentation

  • Configure Azure Budgets, cost alerts, and usage analysis using Cost Management.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and communicate changes with stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • B.E / B.Tech / M.E / M.Tech / M.S / MCA in Computer Science, IT, or related fields.
  • Strong foundation in cloud computing, DevOps practices, and Linux systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services.
