Role Overview

As an Associate DevOps Engineer at Fission Labs, you will manage and maintain cloud infrastructure and Linux-based systems, with a strong focus on AWS services, automation, and security. You will deploy, monitor, and optimize cloud resources, ensure system reliability, and support development workflows through CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices. This role involves hands-on Linux administration, containerization, networking, monitoring, and cost management, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to improve system performance and maintain compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Linux System Administration

• Manage core Linux operations: file system navigation, permissions, user/groups, cron jobs, and system monitoring (top, df, chmod, lsblk).
• Troubleshoot and optimize Linux server performance.

AWS Core Services

• Provision and manage EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and RDS.
• Set up public/private subnets and configure basic access controls.

Networking Fundamentals

• Configure VPC components: subnets, route tables, internet/NAT gateways, security groups.
• Understand traffic flow and basic networking concepts within AWS.

Compute & Storage Management

• Launch, connect, and monitor EC2 instances; manage instance types, AMIs, and snapshots.
• Manage S3 buckets with versioning, lifecycle policies, encryption, and access controls.

IAM & Security

• Administer IAM users, groups, and policies.
• Utilize CloudTrail, Config, and implement fundamental security practices.

CI/CD & Source Control

• Use GitHub/CodeCommit for version control.
• Configure basic builds using CodeBuild or GitHub Actions.
• Apply Git fundamentals: clone, commit, push, branching.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

• Develop and deploy CloudFormation YAML templates or Terraform scripts for automated provisioning.

Monitoring & Logging

• Set up CloudWatch alarms and logs to track performance metrics and identify issues.
• Use logs for deployment validation and application troubleshooting.

Serverless & Event Automation

• Create Lambda functions triggered by S3 events with proper IAM roles.
• Understand event-driven architecture and permissions.

Containers & Orchestration

• Build and run Docker containers, understand Dockerfile structures.
• Basic understanding of Kubernetes concepts: pods, deployments, services.

Cost Management & Documentation

• Configure AWS Budgets and alerts; analyze cost using Cost Explorer.
• Document work clearly in tickets or knowledge bases.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Linux system administration.
• Proficiency in AWS core services: EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, RDS.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals in cloud environments.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control (Git, GitHub, CodeCommit).
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC): CloudFormation, Terraform.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Basic scripting knowledge (Bash, Python).
• Strong troubleshooting, monitoring, and cost management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field preferred.
