Job Description:
Join The Washington Post Data/AI team as a Summer Software Engineer Intern to design and build scalable APIs, data pipelines, and backend services that power personalized news experiences. Work onsite in DC with expert engineers and gain real-world experience deploying production-level applications using Python, Node.js, or Java.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate on building scalable backend services and data infrastructure
- Develop and maintain APIs and data pipelines
- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance
- Participate in code reviews and technical documentation
- Work with cross-functional teams for delivering data-driven user experiences
Required Qualifications:
- Senior year in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Experience with backend development using Python, Node.js, or Java
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development
- Experience deploying production applications
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AWS or other cloud services
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
- Familiarity with API design and RESTful services
