Role Overview

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE-I) at Sumo Logic, you will own service availability and operational excellence for planet-scale observability and security products. You will collaborate with global SRE teams, developers, and infrastructure teams to improve reliability, optimize cloud resources, enhance security, and accelerate feature delivery.

This role is ideal for engineers passionate about automation, cloud infrastructure, microservices reliability, and DevOps practices in a fast-paced SaaS environment.

Key Responsibilities

Reliability & Operations

• Maintain and execute a reliability roadmap focused on availability, security, efficiency, and maintainability.
• Define, evolve, and manage Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
• Participate in on-call rotations and improve operational workflows.
• Drive root cause analysis and issue resolution.

Automation & Scalability

• Write code and automation to reduce operational workload and eliminate toil.
• Scale systems sustainably through automation and infrastructure improvements.
• Enhance security posture and operational efficiency.

Collaboration

• Work closely with development, infrastructure, and Global SRE teams.
• Support microservices operations and improve developer productivity.
• Contribute features, bug fixes, and tooling enhancements when needed.

Infrastructure & Cloud

• Optimize cloud resource usage and developer workflows.
• Promote adoption of development infrastructure tools.
• Support high-velocity engineering environments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Cloud-native application development experience with best practices.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across the technology stack.
• Understanding of AWS networking, compute, storage, and managed services.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Hands-on experience with Linux systems and command-line tools.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Willingness to learn and leverage Sumo Logic products for reliability and security.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with observability platforms or reliability tools.
• Exposure to planet-scale or SaaS product environments.
• Knowledge of streaming technologies like Kafka, Kafka Streams, or KSQL.
• Advanced programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or Python.
• Advanced expertise in Terraform, Jenkins, or Kubernetes.
• Experience running and tuning JVM workloads at scale.
