Role Overview: Cloud Engineer – AWS

Smarsh is hiring a highly skilled Cloud/Platform Engineer to design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines, automation tooling, and cloud-native infrastructure. This role focuses on improving developer productivity, building robust automation frameworks, and ensuring secure software delivery across AWS environments.

Key Responsibilities

CI/CD Development & Automation

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Argo Workflows, and Argo CD.
  • Create reusable pipeline templates and automation frameworks.
  • Improve build performance, testing automation, artifact management, and deployment workflows.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Environment Management

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Manage Kubernetes (EKS) or self-hosted clusters through GitOps workflows.
  • Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting for CI/CD systems.

Scripting & Automation

  • Develop reusable scripts using Python and Shell for automation, integration, and system tooling.
  • Build integrations with third-party platforms like GitHub, AWS, Jenkins, Prometheus, etc.

Integration & Developer Tooling

  • Build integrations across Git, monitoring tools, CI/CD platforms, and container registries.
  • Collaborate with developers to standardize CI/CD adoption, branching strategies, and release workflows.

Security, Compliance & Access Control

  • Implement least-privilege IAM, RBAC, and JIT access patterns.
  • Ensure secure credential management, API authentication, and encryption in automation pipelines.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Work with Platform, Development, and Security teams to define DevOps standards.
  • Document automation scripts, pipelines, and operational best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field — or equivalent experience.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency in Shell scripting, Python, or Go.
  • Strong experience with Jenkins (pipelines, shared libraries, configuration-as-code).
  • Hands-on expertise with GitOps tools: Argo CD, Argo Workflows, Tekton.
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD architecture, branching strategies, release processes.
  • Skilled in YAML configurations, JSON structures, and API integrations.

Cloud & Containerization

  • Advanced knowledge of AWS services: ECR, EC2, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda, etc.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (EKS preferred) and Docker.
  • Strong background in Terraform (preferred).

Monitoring & Observability

  • Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or similar stacks.
  • Ability to automate pipeline logs, metrics, and observability workflows.

Version Control & OSS

  • Strong understanding of Git workflows, pull requests, and code review processes.
  • Experience with open-source collaboration on GitHub or GitLab.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and self-driven.
  • Highly collaborative.

Good to Have (Preferred Skills)

  • Experience with AWS CDK, Crossplane, or Pulumi.
  • Familiarity with developer portals like Backstage, Port, or Cortex.
  • Exposure to DevSecOps tools (Snyk, Trivy, OPA/Kyverno).
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures (EventBridge, Kafka, SNS/SQS).
  • Experience building CI/CD dashboards and developer experience metrics.
