Job Description:

PayPal is hiring an Associate Backend Engineer (Java) for its Notifications Central Platform, a team responsible for high-scale messaging services across EMAIL, SMS, WhatsApp, PUSH, and more. Your Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services using Java, Spring, REST APIs, and messaging systems
• Work closely with product managers to gather technical requirements
• Drive best practices in code quality, architecture, and design patterns
• Optimize performance, scalability, and reliability of backend systems
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in code reviews
• Handle full-cycle development: estimation, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support

Required Skills:

• 2+ years experience with Java EE, Spring, Hibernate, JMS, JPA
• Experience building RESTful microservices
• Strong OOP design and architectural thinking
• SQL and NoSQL database experience (e.g., Oracle, JDBC, MongoDB)
• Familiar with DevOps tools, unit testing, CI/CD pipelines
• Performance tuning and scalable systems expertise
• Familiarity with messaging queues and cloud-based architecture

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in scalable backend systems in FinTech or e-commerce
• Familiarity with agile workflows and test-driven development
