Job Overview

We're seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join our growing product & technology team at Airbase by Paylocity. This is an opportunity to own core features, design scalable solutions, and directly influence the future of financial and HCM software.

You’ll work with modern backend frameworks like Python/Django and Java, and optionally React on the frontend. If you enjoy solving complex problems, building robust APIs, and contributing to scalable systems — this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end features: from technical design to deployment & maintenance
• Collaborate with Product Managers to convert requirements into technical specs
• Guide and participate in code reviews and continuous improvement efforts
• Mentor junior developers and promote clean, efficient coding practices
• Own and scale critical backend components of the platform
• Write and maintain automated tests to ensure high-quality releases
• Engage in architectural discussions and propose scalable backend solutions

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience building scalable backend systems
• Strong experience in Python/Django or the Java ecosystem
• Solid understanding of web protocols, API design, and microservices architecture
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, agile environment
• Passion for learning, mentoring, and writing clean, maintainable code

Preferred / Bonus Skills

• Knowledge of frontend frameworks (JavaScript, React)
• Contributions to open-source projects or personal dev projects
• Experience in fintech, HCM software, or spend management platforms
