Job Overview – Junior DevOps / SRE 2

Comcast is hiring a Junior DevOps / SRE 2 (Site Reliability Engineer) to join the FreeWheel Global Operations Team based in Chicago, Illinois or Denver, Colorado.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance of FreeWheel’s data and ad-serving systems. You’ll collaborate with software engineers, DevOps teams, and infrastructure experts to build automated systems, monitor critical services, and enhance uptime and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• System Monitoring & Optimization: Design, deploy, and maintain monitoring and alerting systems using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK Stack to ensure platform stability and uptime.
• Automation & Tool Development: Develop and maintain automation tools and scripts for deployment, backups, and disaster recovery using Ansible, Terraform, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Performance Tuning: Optimize system performance and data pipelines to reduce latency and improve processing speed for large-scale data environments.
• Incident Response & Troubleshooting: Quickly respond to system failures, perform root cause analysis, and coordinate cross-functional resolutions.
• Capacity Planning: Analyze system load and forecast infrastructure requirements to support growth and traffic spikes.
• Cloud Governance: Enforce security, compliance, and governance policies across AWS, GCP, OCI, or Azure environments.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain detailed documentation for infrastructure, configurations, and procedures to ensure operational consistency.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, product, and project management teams to improve service reliability and deliver production-ready solutions.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 1–3 years as an SRE, DevOps Engineer, or Operations Engineer.
• Programming Skills: Proficient in Python, Go, Java, or Scala for writing automation tools and scripts.
• Automation Tools: Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Monitoring Tools: Familiar with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar monitoring/log management systems.
• Cloud Experience: Exposure to AWS, OCI, GCP, or Azure (Terraform/IaC experience preferred).
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and ability to collaborate with distributed teams.

Preferred Experience

• Practical knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud cost optimization.
• Understanding of network security and cloud compliance standards.

Compensation

• Primary Location Pay Range (Chicago, IL): $84,407 – $126,611 (USD/year).
• Denver, CO Range: $84,407 – $132,640 (USD/year).
• Final offer depends on skills, experience, and performance during evaluation.
